This is a illustration of Magical Goddess Durga during the battle with the Demon Kings, Sumbh and Nisumbh. Durga commonly referred to as Chandi or Bhaugati is considered a Goddess who exudes the energy of warfare. The Demons had taken over the land of Indra, and the age of Treta began. Indra and other Gods went to Durga to ask for her help in battle, against the demons. Durga agreed and set forth to battle. She thought against mighty demon armies. Durga has ten arms, and has a lion who accompanies her in battle.

Drawn in a North Indian style and made for the World of Magic Contest [link]

The story is from a War Poem/Song (Vaar) which was composed by the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is called, Durga Di Vaar, Var Bhaugati Ji or Chandi Di Vaar. It is a War song designed to further infuse the spirit of battle into the Akali's who fought against the tyranny of that time. Many Sikhs do not practice deity worship, thou many recognize the existence of such energies.

Indian mythology and legend is something which really interests me. Durga Di Vaar was a very useful tool, and has some special qualities too it. Most Sikhs today call Durga Di Vaar, Chandi Di Vaar. It is a very useful tool during war as it evokes very powerful energies. I have experienced part of its energy, a few years ago.

The text around the image is the second pauri from Chandi Di Vaar. The first pauri, is the starting of the common Sikh Ardaas. It is in Gurmukhi text, in Raaj calligraphy.
